Nanette Moreau named Utilities Disputes Commissioner

The Board of Utilities Disputes Ltd, formerly known as The Office of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner (EGCC), today named dispute resolution executive Nanette Moreau as Commissioner of Utilities Disputes.

“The selection of Nanette Moreau as Commissioner demonstrates our ongoing commitment to stability, quality and industry experience in dispute resolution,” said Hon. Heather Roy, Chair of Utilities Disputes.

Commissioner Moreau is a highly qualified and experienced professional who has held chief executive and senior management roles in the private and public sectors in Canada and New Zealand.She is an experienced lawyer and mediator. She joined the EGCC in 2002 and moved from her Deputy Commissioner role to Commissioner in March 2016. Since 2001, the EGCC has handled over 50,000 consumer complaints.

“We are very pleased that Nanette Moreau has accepted the role of Commissioner for Utilities Disputes,” the Board stated. “Her impressive record of striving for excellence and best practices in dispute resolution will provide leadership and guidance as we grow.”

“Over the past 15 years, we’ve gained strong expertise in resolving electricity and gas complaints, based on our core principles of fairness, neutrality and independence,” said Commissioner Moreau.

“Over 230 energy and gas providers use our services. This experience is directly applicable to other related utilities such as solar, water and ultrafast broadband.

“As Commissioner of Utilities Disputes, my mandate is to ensure consumers have access and are well served by a fair and independent service. Utilities Disputes will allow us to provide high quality dispute resolution in a wide range of scenarios, creating efficiency gains and ease of access for both consumers and providers,” Commissioner Moreau said.

“Times of change bring challenge and opportunity. In the rapidly changing utilities marketplace, Utilities Disputes will offer providers and consumers a one-stop-shopping dispute resolution service,” Commissioner Moreau concluded.
