The Electricity Authority provides a useful summary of support options, encouraging consumers to save, and stay warm, well and connected during this time. See the consumer guidance here.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has provided some tips to reduce your use and save here.

Warmer kiwi homes programme
EECA are letting people know you can begin applying for grants for the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme.  Find out if you qualify for a Government Warmer Kiwi Homes grant for insulation and/or an efficient heater here.

Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

Self regulate advertising in NZ.

Australian and New Zealand Ombudsman Association (ANZOA)

Established in 2003, ANZOA is a professional association and the leading body for Ombudsmen in Australia and New Zealand.

Banking Ombudsman

Deals with consumer complaints about banks.

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

Provides information, advice, advocacy, and support to individuals.

Commerce Commission

Deals with competition and fair trading issues, and controls distributor prices.

Commission for Financial Capability (CFFC)

Focus on three areas; Retirement Policies, Retirement Villages, and Financial Capability. The CFFC receives complaints about retirement villages.

Provide community legal services.

A directory of complaints bodies in NZ.

Consumer NZ

Advice on consumer products and services.

Disputes Tribunal of NZ

Quicker, cheaper, and less formal than court. You can use the Tribunal to settle small claims up to $15,000 or, if everyone agrees, $20,000.

Electricity Authority (EA)

An independent Crown entity responsible for the efficient operation of the NZ electricity market.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA)

Energy efficiency advice, including the home heating programme “Warm Up New Zealand”.


Offers free support to all financial mentors in NZ.

Gas Industry Co (GIC)

Regulates the operation of the gas industry.

Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO)

Deals with consumer complaints about insurance companies.


A helpline available to provide free financial mentorship to individuals, family, and whānau.

Office of the Ombudsman

Deals with complaints about the public sector and state-owned enterprises.

Office of the Privacy Commissioner

Ensures personal information is respected and protected.


Compares electricity prices between retailers by area.

Sorted is a free service powered by CFFC (Commission for Financial Capability), the government-funded, independent agency dedicated to helping New Zealanders get ahead financially.

Telecommunications Dispute Resolution Service (TDR)

Deals with consumer complaints about telecommunication companies.
